Making Time for What Lights You Up

Good Things Blog - Wall of various clocks

We all have those little things that make life feel richer. Painting for no reason. Reading a book in the middle of the afternoon. Taking your dogs on the scenic route just because the sky looks extra pretty.

But somewhere between work-work, chores, and the gravitational pull of our phones… those things get pushed to “someday.” And let’s be real — someday doesn’t just appear. We have to make it.

Start Small (Like… Really Small)
You don’t need a free weekend to start. You need 10–15 minutes. One chapter. One doodle. One walk around the block. Small moments stack up, and before you know it, you’re actually living the life you say you want — not just thinking about it.

Put the Fun on the Calendar
We schedule dentist appointments and oil changes, but not watercolor afternoons or catch-up calls with our favorite people. Flip that. Give joy the same VIP calendar status as responsibilities.

Create a “Lights Me Up” List
This is your personal menu of activities that make you feel alive. Keep it somewhere visible — on your fridge, in your planner, as your phone wallpaper — so when you get a free sliver of time, you know exactly how to fill it.

Say No, Even to Good Things
Sometimes the reason we “don’t have time” is because we’ve said yes to too many other things. Protect your energy for the things that matter most to you.

Time isn’t just something you spend. It’s something you invest. And when you invest it in the things that light you up, everything else starts to feel a little brighter too.
